Eindhoven, home to makers and doers, innovation, and imagination. By working together Eindhoven constantly challenges itself to move forward. To predict the future, you have to make it yourself. That's what we do best in Eindhoven. That's why the M stands for Makers.
Every year during Dutch Design Week, the city shines a light on thousands of makers on stage. The festival is like a big, juicy cherry on top of the (homemade) cake: a showcase for the city, appreciation for individual makers, and nothing but praise for the local maker culture. Every spectrum of the maker community is represented here: from visual artists like Nacho Carbonell to jewelry designers like Roos and Geertje Eek of the Tweek-Eek label. The book printing arts of Onomatopee and the groundbreaking car designs by student teams like Team Solar also get the attention they deserve.
Sawing, sculpting, screen printing, sewing. Our makers are creating year-round like nowhere else, especially on creative breeding grounds. Take Sectie-C, where four old factory buildings have been transformed into a creative hub where around 200 creatives have gathered. Make sure to also pay a visit outside of DDW, with lunch at OST or quick stop at exhibition space THE POOL. Another bustling hotspot is the NRE-terrein, where collectives like Nul Zes set the tone. From Strijp-S to the Kanaalzone, wherever you go, behind almost every wall are Eindhoven makers working on the future. In 'faces of' we introduce you to some topnotch creatives.
