Walls with Paint: The Umbrella Academy
In 'Walls with Paint' Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: ‘The Umbrella Academy’ by Klaas Lageweg, as part of a marketing campaign for the Netflix series.
Last year, Klaas Lageweg created a mural at Genderstraatje in the city center of Eindhoven, as part of a guerilla marketing campaign by Netflix to promote their series “The Umbrella Academy”.
In six Dutch cities, among which Maastricht, Rotterdam and Eindhoven, Netflix commissioned several artists to make murals of one of the six lead roles in the series.
Originating from a comic book series that came out about 13 years ago, de mural in Eindhoven is inspired by the character with the name Number 1.
The artist Klaas Lageweg is no stranger to Eindhoven, as he has been part of the annual Step In The Arena graffiti festival. His work is known for the combination of realistic images with abstract forms and pixels. Klaas Lageweg has painted murals all over the world but also works on canvas.
