Walls with Paint: The city
In 'Walls with Paint', Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: A reflection of the city by Johan Moorman.
Both the Netherlands and Eindhoven were slightly relieved during the summer of 2021. The sun was shining, it was warm outside, and everybody enjoyed the temporary freedom given by the weather. At the same time, Johan Moorman worked hard on making another tunnel mural for the city of Eindhoven.
You might have heard of his name before; I have talked about his work before. Do you remember his cool superheroes or the identity for the Bergstraat, which he designed and painted on several walls in that street?
Underneath the Vestdijk near the train station, Johan paints, with assistance, a massive cityscape on both sides of the tunnel. Not directly a cityscape where the city of Eindhoven is recognizable, but what is recognizable is the people of Eindhoven: a skateboarder, a cyclist, a mother, and her child, a graffiti artist. They're all on there and in the colors of the rainbow.
You can immediately notice Moorman's style; tight lines, clear and colorful. The isometric perspective gives the painting a depth effect and the appearance of a video game.
The bikes and rental scooters parked near the painting and people walking past the piece will add to your view on depth and perspective on Eindhoven as a city.
