Walls with Paint: Smart City

In 'Walls with Paint' deelt Eindhovenaar, fotograaf en kunst liefhebber Lukedaduke het verhaal achter bijzondere street art in Eindhoven. Deze maand: het Smart City werk van Vincent Huibers en Emil van der Wijst.

Eindhoven has the smartest square kilometre in the world, according to the website of Brainport Eindhoven.

Besides being smart, Eindhoven is also very creative. Technical but also visual.

Over the years, Eindhoven has slowly but surely changed from a 'City of Light' to a 'Smart City'.

Think of ASML, NXP and the High Tech Campus, but also the Technical University, Design Academy, and Fontys.

Vincent Huibers and Emil van der Wijst were commissioned to make a mural on one of the walls of the Smart City Lofts, a student complex at the intersection of the Kronehoefstraat and Kloosterdreef:

SMART CITY was their starting point for the 11-meter high mural.

The large owl and the books symbolize the knowledge and wisdom in Eindhoven, as well as the students who live in the complex. Visual creativity as an expression of the knowledge economy that Eindhoven has become.
