Walls with Paint: Phases
In 'Walls with Paint', Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: the tunnel painting Phases by French artist Russ.
For a couple of years, the city of Eindhoven has been restoring several tunnels and overpasses in the city.
This project is named “Tunnelvisie” (Tunnelvision), and the main goal is to restore and redecorate old tunnels, as many people find these tunnels unpleasant or even unsafe. A visual upgrade should give these tunnels or overpasses a better appearance and a safer feeling for the users of the tunnels.
During the last couple of years, several tunnels and overpasses got an upgrade already. One of those overpasses is underneath the A2-highway at de Meerveldhovenseweg.
Treepack is an organization from Leuven (Belgium) invited to upgrade old buildings, neighborhoods, and surroundings visually. For this mural, named Phases, they asked artist Russ.
Russ is a visual artist from the south of France. He observes the living world around him and processes these observations in his illustrations, paintings, and murals.
When you ride your bike in the morning from Eindhoven to neighboring Veldhoven, this young, flowering life on a 75-meter long mural will greet you.
Cycling back to Eindhoven in the evening through the same tunnel, the day comes to an end.
Instead of simply a passage, your ride through the tunnel becomes an experience.
