In 1966, a UFO came to Eindhoven. Or at least, an intergalactic disc-shaped building that looks remarkably like one. Philips gifted the Evoluon to the city because of the company's 75th anniversary. Quite the birthday treat, if you ask us! Therefore, with all its otherworldly splendor, the E stands for: Evoluon
For numerous Eindhoven locals, a trip to the Evoluon brings back nostalgic childhood recollections. Back in the day, this was THE technology museum of the Netherlands, with lots of interactive displays. Children from far and wide came here on school trips and family outings. Later, the Evoluon took on the function of a conference and event center. And it still is today. This monument has room for up to 1,500 people. Good to know if you’re thinking of organizing a massive event!
Luckily for kids and people who are still young and curious at heart, the futuristic exhibitions are back, now under the guidance of Next Nature Network. Spacefarming is the newest expo and tells the story of the future of our food. It dives into the food revolution that awaits us on this planet (and far beyond). Occasionally, the Evoluon is also the setting for special performances. Like the four legendary concerts Kraftwerk gave here in 2013 to an audience going crazy. If you weren't there, you missed out on a lot of fun.
Visit the Evoluon
But not to worry if you don’t have fond memories of Evoluon yet, because today, everyone can go aboard this Eindhoven spaceship. Buy a ticket for the interactive exhibits or book a special time travel ticket. Here, you can see what else there is to do. On Sundays, for example, there are lovely guided tours. Afterward, don't forget to ground yourself at Bar Brasserie NEXT with a 'bitterbal' or a brownie. Or do you prefer the jellyfish salad?
